Discovery Flights run $99–$199. You fly either the everyday Cessna 172 or the premium Cirrus SR20 — and you are at the controls, with a Certified Flight Instructor beside you.
First solo
The flight every pilot remembers for the rest of their life. Grand Strand is a general aviation field, so you are not queuing behind airline traffic to get to it — more of the hour you paid for is spent flying.

Do I need any experience to start flight training?
No — none at all. To hold a Private Pilot certificate you need to be at least 17, able to speak, read and write English, and hold an FAA third-class medical certificate, which an aviation medical examiner issues after a straightforward exam. Plenty of people start with a $99 Discovery Flight having never touched an airplane.
What aircraft would I train in?
One of seven: three IFR-certified Cessna 172s, three Cirrus SR20s, and a 315-horsepower Cirrus SR22 G6. You can start in the 172 and move to the Cirrus, or fly the whole certificate in the SR20.
Can I train while working a full-time job?
Yes. Blue Horizon is open seven days a week at Grand Strand Airport, so lessons schedule around your week rather than a fixed class timetable.
How much does flight training cost?
